Is Excavation Unavoidable? Sometimes

Sometimes the sewer pipes are not accessible. In other cases the sewer pipes show damage in multiple locations.  If this is the case trenchless side sewer repairs are not an option. Open Trench Excavation is the answer. But do not fear this option either. Our plumbing and sewer expert crews excavate and clean up your yard and get your plumbing system back up and running in no time!

Side Sewer Line Repairs: To Dig . . .

For excavation repairs, a backhoe is commonly used. The backhoe digs up the old pipes. Our crew removes them and replaces them with new ones. Once the old pipe is replaced, the trench is backfilled. This approach destroys landscaping and it is expensive and messy.  These are two big reasons trenchless side sewer repair is a popular alternative, but sometimes excavation is necessary. This is why having a sewer line camera video inspection is such a great idea.

Or Not to Dig . . .

Trenchless side sewer line repairs fix your drain and sewer lines without excavating across your property. Additionally, trenchless sewer line repairs are more cost effective than excavation.

The key is the video sewer inspection to diagnose the problem. The inspection confirms if a trenchless sewer line repair approach is appropriate. We review the results of the camera inspection with you and provide you with a copy of the video too.

There are a few types of trenchless sewer line repair methods which we explain in full detail below.

Getting Down to the Nitty Gritty

Still want to know more about the various types of side sewer repair? Read on! We are the experts since 1908. Our crews can quickly and efficiently perform any of the below types f sewer line repairs:

  • Cured in Place Pipelining or CIPP also Called Sewer Pipe Lining Insert a lining into the existing pipe and pull it through and inflate it into the damaged pipe. An epoxy cures the lining in place.
  • Pipe Bursting (Pipebursting) Pipe bursting is a trenchless side sewer repair method of replacing buried pipelines (such as sewer, water, or natural gas pipes) without the need for a traditional construction trench. “Launching and receiving pits” replace the trench needed by conventional pipe-laying.
  • Point Repair We insert a flexible pipe into the existing damaged pipe.  This inserted pipe is installed by just digging one hole and therefore does not require major excavation, or the need to dig a trench. Point repair means the plumber creates just one point of access to complete the repair.

Did We Mention the Importance of Camera Line Inspection?

The best way to find out if your sewer line repair requires excavation is to have a camera line inspection. Jim Dandy offers all trenchless side sewer line repair options like point repair, pipe-bursting or cured in place pipe lining. A simple, inexpensive sewer line camera inspection of your sewer line is the first step to solving your sewer back-up.  This simple inspection allows our certified plumbers and technicians to insert a flexible camera into you sewer line from any clean-out access point.

Recent Video of a Sewer Line Scope

We insert the camera is into your sewer line and we inspect every inch of the pipe from top to bottom, all the way to where the lateral sewer line meets with the public or city sewer line. This technology pinpoints exactly where the damage is and the exact cause of the damage. We see if the sewer pipe is repairable in place or if we need to excavate to repair the sewer line. In any case you see exactly what we see and we provide you with a copy of the video too, on a thumb drive. This is useful for insurance and real estate sale purposes.

The camera inspection demonstrates if the cause of the damage is cracking or decaying sewer pipes, or if the cause is a blockage from plumbing and waste. Tree root invasion causes cracks, clogs and breakage to sewer lines. Whatever the problem once we have the footage from the video inspection we pinpoint the exact place in yard where the repair needs to take place.

After the Inspection – Let the Experts Take Over

We decide which of the above methods is best for your particular sewer line repair:

  • Cured in Place Pipelining (CIPP or Sewer Pipelining)
  • Pipe Bursting (Pipebursting)
  • Point Repair
  • Excavation and Complete Side Sewer Line Replacement

A video inspection locates the exact point of the sewer line damage. We give you a copy of the video and it is yours to share with the city, or your neighbors. The responsible party should repair your sewer line.
