Read below for more information on water heaters, including repair and replacement!
Brand and Capacity
Jim Dandy installs Rheem water heaters. However, we can provide any brand of water heater per the customer’s request. Water heaters typically come in 40 gallons or 50 gallons, but if your water heater is a different size we can custom order the water heater to fit your home. Generally, water heaters in trailer homes are 30 gallons. How do you know the capacity of your water heater? There should be a sticker on the side, and it should include the serial number, model number, gallon capacity, and other information that you may need to know about your water heater. What are the different types of water heaters? There are gas, electric, and tankless water heaters, and Jim Dandy can provide, maintain, and install any type of water heater. Below is more information on the different types of water heaters.
Gas Water Heaters
Gas water heaters are generally cheaper to operate, but they can cost more upfront than electric water heaters. However, gas heaters make up the difference in price in about one year based on energy savings. Gas water heaters heat faster and use less energy, making them more efficient. One disadvantage of gas water heaters, however, is that most newer ones use electric ignitions. This means that when your power goes out the hot water goes out as well (except for what is left in the tank).
Electric Water Heaters
Generally, electric water heaters cost less than gas heaters of the same size. An electric tank can also be installed in confined spaces – fear of a gas buildup or an explosion are of no concern. Your chances of an explosion with a gas water heater are much greater because a gas leak is more likely to take place than an electrocution from faulty wiring within your tank. There is also no pilot light with electric water heaters, so you do not need to worry about relighting the flame if it goes out.
Tankless Water Heaters
Tankless water heaters heat your home’s water on demand. The tanks do not store hot water, and they are so small that they can be hung on a wall. With tankless water heaters, you have an endless supply of hot water. You pay only when you use hot water instead of heating a tank of hot water all day; this saves energy and money. They have an efficiency rate of 80% or higher. Tankless water heaters, however, can be significantly more expensive. They are also more complicated to install.
Repairing Your Water Heater
Jim Dandy can repair your water heater in the quickest and most cost-efficient way possible. Not having warm water is one of the biggest issues that your home could face. Showers, bathtubs, dishwashers, sinks, and washing machines all use hot water. We can fix this issue as quickly as possible. Many parts on water heaters can be replaced. To help prolong your water heater’s life you should have the tank flushed periodically. This flushing process removes any sediment that contributes to the corrosion of water heater tanks. Jim Dandy can repair leaks within your water heater. You should check the pipes around your water heater. Water heaters are connected to both hot and cold-water pipes. Take a look at these pipes if it seems like your water heater is leaking because these pipes could be the culprit behind the water surrounding your water heater. Regular maintenance on your water heater is recommended.
Replacing Your Water Heater
If your water heater is over eight years old, a plumber may recommend that you get it replaced. The older your water heater gets the more problems it is going to have. By the time that you have made all the repairs you might as well just buy a new water heater altogether. A new hot water heater may also be efficient enough to pay for itself in the long run by using less energy. Modern designs of water heaters are far more efficient than older models. Consulting with a professional and having them take a look at it is a good idea because then you can make the proper arrangements and decisions necessary. Jim Dandy typically uses Rheem water heaters, but we can provide any brand of water heater per the customer’s request. We can replace and install your water heater in no time.
How Do I Know If My Water Heater Needs Replaced?
If your water heater is leaking from the bottom, this is an indication that your water heater most likely needs replaced. Once the storage tank goes then that means that it is time for a new water heater. If your water heater is old then it is also recommended to have it replaced. Water heaters do not last forever. If your water heater works erratically or not at all then this a sign that it needs replaced as well. When replacing a water heater consider upgrading it. You can choose to increase or decrease the capacity to accommodate your family if it is growing or if people are moving out. You can also choose to go tankless, which also has its own benefits.
